Canon Ef 24 105Mm F 4 L Is Usm Review
So it’s nice to see Canon offering the RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM lens with its new EOS R mirrorless camera. Compact and relatively lightweight, this lens boasts the same constant f/4 maximum aperture as its EF mount predecessors. But it adds a new, customisable Control Ring, which can be configured to adjust exposure settings like aperture
One of the main attractions of the Canon EOS R and EOS RP bodies is their comparatively compact and lightweight build, compared with full-frame DSLRs. Following suit, the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM standard zoom lens shaves off 11mm in length and 95g in weight, compared with its EF L-series counterpart.
27-43mm = f/4.5 44-69mm = f/5.0 70-104mm = f/5.6 105-240mm = f/6.3. From 27-43mm you lose 1/3 stop and from 44-69mm you lose 2/3 stop. Overall not too bad considering you get an extra 135mm of reach and only give up 1.33 stops through this range compared to f/4.0 at 105mm for the L lens. Lastly, the IS and AF (Nano USM) for the 24-240mm is very
There are caveats, though, in that the RP is a poor choice for those looking to shoot video, and the native lens selection is lacking at this time. The EOS RP is available now at a price of $1299 body-only, $1999 with the EF adapter and a 24-105mm F3.5-5.6 lens, and $2399 with the native RF 24-105mm F4L lens.
Compare it yourself on the digital picture. RF STM vs EF L: 24mm: RF better. 50mm: EF better. 70mm: Match. 105mm: RF better. So, overall, I would say it is a downgrade on the image quality standpoint, but given you have a 26MP sensor, it's unlikely you'll really notice.
